Eight Year Old Sorceress
“And how do you expect to defeat me? My ring here is basically the only
object of sorcery on this planet.” I claimed as I waved my ring around.
“We don’t expect to defeat you! We just want you to give up your powers.
You are destroying the human race!” my mother called as they, my friends
and family, were behind her, correction: my used-to-be friends and family.
“Not a chance!!” I snapped. “Hmm, I want a snack. Chips anyone?” I pointed
my finger at them and…
It was the first day of kindergarten. I was slowly walking to the office,
my mother beside me.
“Hi. My daughter needs help finding her class,” my mom explained. “Can you
help us?”
“Sure, let me see the number.” The woman at the counter said. My mom was
handing the card to the lady.
“Mommy, let me do it.” I said as I grabbed the card and ran out the door.
“Lily, get back here, now!” I quickly came back through the door and
returned the card to the girl at the counter. The person giggled and led
us to the classroom. We all gathered into the smallish room pouring with
kids like me; kindergarteners. The teacher spotted us from across the room
and tip-toed over to us.
“Hi. My name is Ms. Mandozi. What’s your name?”
“My name is Lily-Beth.” I said with a smile. She grinned from ear-to-ear
so I tried to show all my teeth. I failed.
“Well, happy first day of school. Let me show you your seat.” I followed
her to a little desk in the corner of the room. I sat down with my “Dora
the Explorer” backpack. I got it yesterday at Target. I also got new
shoes, new clothes, and a bunch of stuff. It was like Christmas! I looked
all around the room. I was a shy girl; I didn’t think I would have any
friends. Except for the three friends I already have, of course -me,
myself, and I. I just can’t believe that I have to go to school now. My
mommy told me how I will have to work very hard in everything I do. She
also gave me a plastic ring. When I first got it, I thought, why would I
want this? It’s cheap. But, whatever to that. I soon met someone that
actually was like me. She needed someone to play with, too.
“Hello. My name is Akeela, but you can call me Kellie. What’s your name?
My mom told me to come and talk to you to see if you want to be my
friend.” This is the girl I was talking about.
“My name is Lily-Beth. Why do you people care? The teacher asked me, too.
I don’t get it.”
“Me, too. Can I call you Lily,” she had a thinking look on. “Or Beth?”
“Sure. Lily’s fine. Hey, do you like “Dora the explorer”? I asked.
“Yeah, I was about to ask you the same thing. You have my backpack.”
“Really?”
“Yep.”
“Hey, Lily. I have to go now. Who’s this?” my mom came and hugged me. She
was wondering who my friend was.
“I’m Kellie.”
“Well, I will see you kiddoes later. Bye.” My mother gave me a kiss and
was out the door. I looked out of the window and watched her car drive
away. The day was quick. I learned a song called “The itsy-bitsy spider”
and “the ABC’s. In my opinion, it was an exciting day. My mom came and
took me home. The next day was Saturday. I was getting ready to go to
school and then my mom came into my room.
“What are you doing?” She laughed, smiling as if I was doing something
cute.
“I am getting ready for school. What are you doing?”
“I was cleaning the house. Honey, there’s no school on Saturday. You will
just have to wait until Monday.”
“B-but why?” I could feel tears; I just loved school so much. I looked at
my ring. It was glowing.
“Because, sweet-heart, it’s a weekend. Teachers need a little break as
well as kids, so on Saturday, Sunday also, we don’t have school.”
“Okay.” I said with a sigh. My mom left the room, so I went to my
homework. I picked it up and looked it over. I looked at my ring and was
thinking of how I didn’t want to do it. All at once, my homework was
finished. What the heck, I thought, did the ring do this? I was going to
tell my mom, but this horrible thought came into my head. What if she
takes it away? Monday came and I met these people after my mom left me at
the school.
“What’s that?” I think it was a fifth grader.
“Oh, this?” I pointed to my ring. “It’s a ring that I got for the first
day of kindergarten.”
“What? That’s dumb.” He said. He was a bully, I don’t like bullies. I
looked at my ring and thought of how mean he was, then, a thought of how I
wanted a hermit crab named Ollie popped into my head as well. Next thing I
knew, a hermit crab was in the place of where the meany was. Did I just do
a good thing, or a bad thing? Well, at least he’s gone. I went to class
and sat down.
“Does everyone have their homework? Remember, it was due today.” Several
of the little people went to her and handed her the seat. I got up, but my
paper was gone. Oh no! I thought. I looked around. We were having reading
time, and the bell rang for recess.
“Lily-Beth, can I talk to you?” Ms. Mandozi called. I not only thought it
was about the worksheet, I knew it was about the worksheet.
“Yes.”
“You did really well on your homework. Did your mom help you?”
“What. No.” I stammered. “Uh, how did you get my homework?”
“Don’t you remember? You came up and handed it to me.”
I was trying to act like I knew what was going on, and then I did. The
ring.
“Hello?” The teacher was looking at me, waiting for the answer. I guess I
had drifted off, thinking of the ring. I couldn’t help, but think that my
ring was magical. Who would’ve thought?
“Oh, yeah. I totally remember. Can I go to recess now?”
“You may.” I left and was thinking of how much fun this could be. I could
get anything I wanted. All I had to do was think. My 7th birthday was
coming and I wanted a huge sleepover with boys included as well as girls.
And now I knew that that was possible. Thinking was the answer. I waited
at the office for my mom to pick me up. I could not wait to tell her of my
idea.
“Hey, mommy.”
“Yep?”
“I was thinking that for my birthday, I could, maybe, have a huge party.”
“Well, how many friends do you have?”
“Not much, but if I have a big party, I can get to know a lot of people
and I will be popular. Don’t you think that it’s a good idea?”
“Let’s think. A small house, a lot of kids, one girl, and lot’s of
presents. I don’t think so; it will be too much of a hassle.”
“But-“
“Absolutely not.” My mom was not being fair. I looked at my ring and
thought of how much I wanted that party. I thought of how my parents have
wanted some alone time. And I thought of how it all fit together. I stared
and stared at my ring and planned a date in my mind.
“Hey mom. Don’t you think that it’s time you and dad went out?”
“Yeah. I have been thinking of that. Why?”
“I think that this Friday would be a good time. How about you?”
“I think so, too.”
“Good.” My thoughts were working very well. I was an only child, so no one
would be able to watch me. My mom called a baby-sitter. After that, I
glued my eyes to my ring and thought of my mom’s voice. I spoke, “Hello,
Vivian.” I sounded just like my mom. I called the lady, whose name is
actually Olivia. “Hey, Vivian. I just wanted-” I choked. My voice was
coming back. I just looked at my ring.
“Hello?”
“Oh, yes, hello.” I was glad I had my mom’s voice again. “My husband and I
changed our plans and won’t need you this Friday. Will that be okay?”
“Yes, actually, that would be great.”
“I am glad to make you glad. Bye.”
“Bye.” The line clicked and it was all settled.
“Sweetie, what are you doing?” My mom just came in. I coughed and coughed,
trying to get my mom’s voice to wear off. “Oh, dear. Are you okay?”
“Mom, just a cough. I was trying to call my friend. Then I realized that I
didn’t know who number. Ha.” I was trying really hard to cover up what I
just did.
“Okay, if you say so.” My mom left the room, so I went to the computer to
type the invites. I put this on the paper:
You are invited to Lily-Beth’s party!!
When: Friday, October 2nd, 2011. Come at any time after 12:00 and before
6:00 – ends at 7:00
Who: You! You are invited!!
Why: To have fun and celebrate my 7th b-day!
Where: My house-18763 W. Canary St.
What: An awesome party!!
I was getting a bit worried of what would happen, it was there that I
remembered my ring again. I pressed “print” a bunch of times (about a 200
times!). The next day at school, I asked the lady at the office if I could
put the invitations all around the school. She said yes, so when my mom
left, I took a bunch of tape and ran around the school. I was done about
two minutes before school actually started. Friday was here and I was
waiting for people to come. I thought that anyone was welcome. The house
was full and chaotic. Kids were jumping on the furniture, eating all of
our food, messing around in my parents’ room, and being kids. What do you
expect? It went pretty well. When no one was looking, I was creating ice
cream and cake. I had no worries. I could clean it up in a blink of an
eye. I looked at my finger and watched my ring slowly dissolve into my
skin. It was sort of freaky, but I didn’t think too much of it.
“Thanks for coming! I hope everybody had fun! Thank you for the presents
and for giving me a fun night!” I was leading everyone out the door and
closed the door behind them. I was just pondering on what I was going to
do with the presents. I just hid them in my room where no one ever looked.
I cleaned up the house and refilled the fridge. Good old food storage. My
parents never pay attention to the storage, so they won’t notice.
My parents were home soon after that and I was just sitting. I was
pretending to do my homework. Of course, I knew I wouldn’t have to do it.
I now planned to rule the world. Strangely, that was all I wanted.
“And how do you expect to defeat me? My ring here is basically the only
object of sorcery on this planet.” I claimed as I waved my finger around.
“We don’t expect to defeat you! We just want you to give up your powers.
You are destroying the human race!” my mother called as they, my friends
and family, were behind her, correction: my family and used-to-be friends.
“Not a chance!!” I snapped. “Hmm, I want a snack. Chips anyone?” I pointed
my finger at them and I had a little treat of barbecue chips with some
dip. After my snack, I revolved my finger in a circular formation,
building a mixture of a tornado, hurricane, thunderstorm, and sandstorm. I
had a huge chance of ruling the world now. Everyone would fear me, thus
giving me all the power in the world. Actually, who cares about the world?
It is 2012 now, I guess we should fulfill the predictions of the end of
the world. I will just help the end of the world. Those people predicted
correctly.
