The chicken pox are spreading through the third grade classroom.  A few students got the chicken pox on Monday.  On Tuesday, 2 more students got the chicken pox than on Monday.  Each day after that, 2 more students caught the chicken pox than the day before.  On Friday, 12 students caught the chicken pox.  How many students caught the chicken pox in 5 days?

There are 46 nests for birds in the huge oak tree.  The blue jay wants to know how many nests are empty today.  Here are some clues:

Not all of the nests are empty today.

More than 40 nests are empty.

An even number of nests are empty.

The empty nests could be counted by fours, with none left over.

Carl is 13 years old now and Paul is 18.   A few years ago, when Paul was twice as old as Carl, Paul taught Carl to play cards.  How old was Carl when he learned how to play cards?

Steve and Matt are playing a card game called Hearts.  They get 3 points every time they draw a yellow card and 5 points every time they draw a purple card.  The first person to get 75 points first wins the game.  Steve has 41 points now and he has 9 cards.  How many cards of each color does he have?

Kevin saved nickels and dimes until he had 55¢.  He had 8 coins.  How many of each kind did Kevin have?
