Some figures are closed and some figures are open.
A polygon is a closed figure made up of 3 or more line segments.
Look at the figures below.

These figures are closed.

These figures are polygons.

These figures are open.

These figures are not polygons.

 

Polygons are formed by line segments. A circle does not have line segments.  A circle is not a polygon.  Triangles, squares, and rectangles are polygons, as well as other closed figures that are made up of 3 or more line segments.

 

Look at the figures below.  Write "Yes" if the figure is a polygon and write "No" if the figure is not a polygon.
