Lesson List

The symbol < means less than or equal to.  The symbol > means greater than or equal to.

As an example: for the variable m, m > 12.  The variable could be the number 12 or any number greater than 12.

Another example:  for the variable s, s < 3, in other words the variable could be any of the whole numbers 0, 1, 2, or 3.

The symbols >, <, and = are combined together to form the new symbols  > and <.

Look at this example: 12  >  n  <   16.

The set of numbers for the variable n would be 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 or the set (12, 13, 14, 15, 16).

We can order numbers using the > and < signs.

For example:

3 < 5 < 11 < 13 is ordered least to greatest.

And 24 > 12 > 7 > 3 is ordered greatest to least.

Place a >  or  < sign in problem.
