Japan
Japan is made up of many islands. The
four main islands are really the tops of a great mountain
range. Japan has many volcanoes and many earthquakes.
Japan has one of the largest cities in the
world. Tokyo is a busy, modern, crowded city, with many stores,
museums, banks, colleges, and apartment buildings.
If you visit a Japanese family living in an
apartment in Tokyo, you may have to take off your shoes as
soon as you enter. You would wear socks or special slippers.
In the past, if you were invited to stay
for dinner, you may not sit in a chair. You would kneel on a cushion around
a very low table. Today, most Japanese families use a standard
table with chairs.
