3-13 Spelling Tip

The k sound.
The k sound is spelled k in kitten and kite.
The k sound is spelled ck in lucky and tuck.

1. complete 1.  having all parts; whole:  a complete set of dishes.  2.  make whole:  They completed the puzzle.  3.  get to the end of:  She completed the task.  4.  finished; done:  My collection is complete.
2. become 1.  come to be; grow to be:  It is becoming warmer.   He has become wiser as he has grown older.  2. Become of means happen to:  What has become of her book?
3. cry 1.  call loudly:  She cried, "Look out!"   2.  a loud call:  We heard the child's cry for help.  3.  make a noise, usually with tears:  Babies cry.
4. quickly fast; in a quick way:  The girls quickly arranged for the party.
5. course 1.  the direction taken:  Our course was east.   2. Of course means certainly.
6. dark 1.  without light:  Our closet is dark.  2. nearly black in color.  She has dark hair.  3.  gloomy:  It was a dark day because the sun didn't shine. 4.  darkness:  Come back after dark.
7. cross 1.  a stick with another across it to form a T or an X.   2.  mark with an X or draw a line through:  He crossed out his mistake.   3. move from one side to another:  We will cross a bridge.  4. make the sign of a cross:  The woman crossed herself.  5.  not feeling happy:  The baby was cross because he was hungry.
8. broken 1.  make come to pieces by a blow or a pull:  The ball will break a window.  2.  come apart; burst:  The bag broke.
9. control 1.  the power over:   A driver must not lose control of his car.  2. have power over:  A driver must control his car every minute.  3.  hold back; keep down:  Please control your laughter.   4.  a lever or switch that controls a machine. 
10. banker a person that helps run a bank.
