3-23 Spelling Tip

The sounds f and n.
The f sound can be spelled lf.
The f sound is in calf and half.
The n sound can be spelled kn.
The n sound is in know and knot.

 

Words Definitions
1. calf 1.  a baby cow, elephant, or whale.  2. leather made of the skin of a calf:  My new shoes are made of calf.  3. the back of the leg below the knee.
2. wife a woman who has a husband; a married woman.
3. lifted move something up in the air:  Dad lifted the box up on the shelf.
4. factory a building or group of buildings where things are made.   A factory usually has machines in it.
5. fresh 1.  newly made, grown, or gathered:  Go and pick some fresh flowers.  2.  pure; cool:   A fresh breeze was blowing.
6. afraid 1.  frightened; feeling fear:  Are you afraid of snakes?   2.  sorry:  I'm afraid I must ask you to go.
7. office 1.  a place where some people work.  2.  a certain position:  The office of president.
8. fear 1. a feeling that danger or something bad is near:   The baby has no fear.  2.  feel fear: be afraid of:  We feared the storm that was coming.
9. forward 1. on; ahead:  She drove the car forward; then she backed up.  2.  to the front:  All pitchers step forward.  3.  a certain player on a basketball team.
10. knife a flat piece of steel or other metal with a handle and a sharp edge.
