3-30 Spelling Tip

Plural ending s and es.
You add s and es to words to name more than one.
The plural ending s in in pets, plants, and cats.
The plural ending es is in inches, buses, and taxes.
To add es to words ending in y, you change the y to i, berry, berries, carry, carries.

 

Words Definitions
1. butterflies insects with small, thin bodies and four large, brightly colored wings.
2. hobbies things a person likes to do as a pastime.
3. ferries carry people and things across a river or narrow strip of water:  This ship ferries automobiles.
4. games something to play or contests with certain rules.
5. shoes the coverings for people's feet.
6. radios 1.  a way of sending and receiving sounds through the air:  The pilots talked to each other using radios.  2.  the instruments for hearing these sounds:  We have two radios in our house.
7. tomatoes fruits eaten as a vegetable.
8. branches 1. parts of a tree that grow out from the trunk.   2.  parts of something that are divided:  The river branches in two directions.
9. inches a measure of length.   Twelve inches are in one foot.
10. taxes monies paid by the people to run a government.
