3-35 Spelling Tip

The or sound.
The sign for the or sound is /wpe1.gif (904 bytes)/.
The or sound is spelled or in for and short.
The or sound is spelled ore in shore and fore.
The or sound is spelled our in four.

 

Words Definitions
1. short 1.  not tall:  The short children sit in the front seats.  2.  not long:  Summer seems short.
2. course 1.  the direction taken:  Our course was east.  2. Of course means certainly.
3. cork 1. the bark of a kind of oak tree.  2. a piece of cork or other material that keeps liquid from running out of a bottle.
4. fourteen four more than ten; 14.
5. gourd a kind of fruit with a hard shell.  You can make bowls from the shells.
6. boring not interesting or amusing; dull.
7. detour 1.  a road that is used when the main road is closed.  2.  use as a detour:  The police detoured traffic around the accident.
8. porch a covered entrance or platform on the outside of a building.
9. fore at the front; toward the beginning or front.
10. forget 1.  let go out of the mind; fail to remember.  2.  fail to think of; fail to do.
