4-18 Spelling Tip

Words with oo and ew.
The oo and ew make the /2_dot_u.gif (866 bytes)/ sound.
The oo sound is in loose, tooth, and spoon.
The ew sound is in chew, few, and flew.

 

Words Definitions
1. loose not tight; not firmly fastened:  a loose button, a loose tooth.
2. tooth 1.  one of the hard, white parts in the mouth, used for chewing.  2.  something like a tooth:  Each sharp point on the edge of a saw is a tooth.
3. broom a brush with a long handle.
4. chew crush with the teeth.
5. moonlight 1.  the light of the moon:  The moonlight came through my window.  2.  having the light of the moon:  a moonlight light.
6. loop 1.  a curved line that crosses itself.  2. make a loop:  She looped the ribbon to make a bow.
7. blew sent forth by a strong current of air:  The wind blew the tree down.
8. toothbrush a small brush used for cleaning teeth.
9. stew 1.  cook by boiling.  2.  food cooked by slow boiling:  Betty made beef stew.
10. stool a seat without a back and without arms.
