5-27 Spelling Tip

Silent letters
Many words have letters that are silent. They are called silent letters.
Silent letters
are in although, right, imagine, and erode.

 

Words Definitions
1. tongue 1.  the part inside your mouth that moves.  2.  anything like a tongue:  a tongue of flame.
2. crystals 1.  clear, transparent minerals that look like ice.   It is kind of quartz.  2.  pieces of crystal cut into form for use or ornament.
3. safety 1.  a being safe; freedom from harm or danger.  2. a device to prevent injury or accident.  A gun cannot be fired if the safety is on.
4. scratch 1.  break, mark, or cut slightly with something sharp or rough.  2.  mark made by scratching.  3.  tear or dig with the nails or claws.  4.  a very slight cut.  5.  rub or scrape to relieve itching.  6.  rub with a harsh noise; rub.  7.  sound of scratching.
5. acre land; a measurement of property.  43,560 square feet.
6. ghost in stories, one who is dead but who appears to living people.
7. insects small animals with bodies divided into three parts.   Mosquitoes, flies and bees are insects.
8. echo 1.  a sounding again; repeating of a sound.  2.   sound again; repeat or be repeated in sound.  3.  repeat or imitate what another says or does.
9. ridge 1.  the long and narrow upper part of something.  2. the line where two sloping surfaces meet.  3.  a long, narrow chain of hills or mountains.
10. kneel go down on your knees:  They often kneel in prayer.
