5-33 Spelling Tip

Suffixes -er, -est, -ed, -ing
A suffix is an ending to a word.
The suffix -er is added to smaller and happier.
The suffix -est is added to smallest and happiest.
The suffix -ed is added to stamped and wanted.
The suffix -ing is added to spotting and deciding.

 

Words Definitions
1. tossed 1.  throw lightly with the palm upward; cast; fling.  2. throw about; roll or pitch about:  The ship was tossed by the waves.  3.  lift quickly; throw upward:  She tossed her head.
2. outer on the outside; farther out:  Shingles are used as an outer covering for many roofs.
3. attached 1.  fix in place; fasten.  2. add at the end.  3.  bind by affection:  She is very attached to her cousin.  4. fasten itself; belong.  5.  give to; attribute.
4. lovely beautiful or endearing in appearance or character; lovable.
5. former 1.  the first of two:  When I am offered ice cream or pie, I always choose the former.  2.  earlier; past; long past.
6. survivor person, animal, or plant that remains alive; thing that continues to exist:  There were two survivors from the plane crash.
7. assembly 1.  a gathering of people for some purpose; meeting.  2.  a meeting of lawmakers.  3.  a coming together; an assembling.  4.  a putting together; fitting together.  5.  the complete group of parts required to put something together.
8. conductor 1.  person who conducts; leader or guide:  the conductor of a tour.  2.  director of an orchestra, chorus, etc.  3. a railroad worker in charge of a train and its crew.  4. thing that transmits heat, electricity, light, or sound.
9. senator member of a senate.
10. conflicting be actively opposed; differ in thought or action; clash.
