2-17 Reading a Time Line

A time line shows you when something took place.  Time lines may be read from left to right just like reading a book.  The oldest date will be first in the time line.  Time lines may also be read from the top down.  Then the oldest date would be at the top of the time line.

Look at the time line below and answer the questions that follow.

Vertical Timeline

1.  What year was Kaine born?

2.  What age did Kaine have his first birthday party?

3.  What age did Kaine begin kindergarten?

4.  What year was Kaine's sister born?

5.  What happened in 2006?

A. Kaine had his first birthday.

B. Kaine's sister was born.

C. Kaine went to preschool.

D. Kaine started kindergarten.

6.  What happened in 2004?

A. Kaine had his first birthday.

B. Kaine's sister was born.

C. Kaine started kindergarten.

D. Kaine learned to walk.

7.  What year did Kaine start second grade?

8.  What age did Kaine start first grade?
